In 1988, Dr Rick van Groningen (Managing Director of Lighthouse Health Group) started the Children's Spinal Research Foundation with a group of eminent doctors and businessmen and in 1992 recruited a team of healthcare professionals (comprising nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and social workers) to help him design, build and operate Australia’s first paediatric spinal rehabilitation facility, known then, as SpineCare Village.

The SpineCare team worked together for the next seven years until, when in 1999, SpineCare Village was donated to the Children’s Hospital at Westmead.

In September 2001, the founding members of the original SpineCare Village rehabilitation team re-assembled to establish Lighthouse Health Group.

Lighthouse Health Group Pty Ltd and Lighthouse Health Group WA Pty Ltd are privately-owned companies that operate as specialist medico-legal and case management practices offering expert advice, support and guidance in the following key service areas:

• Life Care Planning
• Catastrophic Injury Case Management
• General Rehabilitation Case Management
• Wound Care Services
• Allied Health Therapy Services
• 'Health & Wealth' Services

Our professional staff consist of highly-skilled clinical nurse consultants, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, social workers and rehabilitation counsellors. We also have direct access to other allied health professional and rehabilitation physicians throughout Australia.

Many of our original paediatric clients from the early SpineCare days have chosen to remain with us and today continue to receive our case management support.  In some instances, these clients are now adults with their own children.

We operate throughout Australia with local offices and staff situated in Sydney , Brisbane and Perth.

We are the only private rehabilitation practice in Australia operating as a 'Quality Endorsed Company' under the AS/NZS ISO 9001:2008 standard and are externally audited for our compliance to these standards on an annual basis by SAI Global.

As stated earlier, our mission is to assist people with disabilities achieve meaningful life goals.  One of our key strategies towards meeting this mission is to provide ‘guidance’ to our clients – hence our name ‘Lighthouse’ and our depiction of Peggy's Cove Lighthouse, one of the world’s most famous lighthouses situated at the entrance to St Margaret's Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada, in our corporate logo.
